Lawyers for EEOC and BOLI Charges in Portland

Legal Assistance Through the Claims Process

The EEOC, or Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, is a federal agency that receives and investigates discrimination charges. The EEOC also receives and investigates harassment (including hostile work environment) and retaliation charges.

BOLI is a state agency for Oregon that also receives and investigates discrimination, harassment and retaliation charges. BOLI’s formal name is the Bureau of Labor and Industries.

When workers file charges with the EEOC or BOLI, the EEOC or BOLI investigates. The EEOC and BOLI are neutral in their investigations, which means neither advocates for workers. Also, the EEOC and BOLI investigate only to the extent they have the resources (including time) to do so.

Before workers file charges with the EEOC or BOLI, workers should strongly consider hiring an employment law attorney to represent them. Such representation includes investigating the claims, researching other potential claims and then putting together a charge based on facts and the investigation as provided for under the law.

Should I File With the EEOC or BOLI?

While federal law and state law (in Oregon) are similar in some ways, they are different in other ways. An experienced employment lawyer is able to help you determine which agency is the proper agency to file charges with. Also, in some cases, charges are not the best way to get to the truth and hold lawbreakers responsible. In some cases, a lawsuit with subpoena power is the best way to enforce the law.

Our employment lawyers represent workers, never employers, in EEOC charges and BOLI charges. Our employee law group investigates for clients. Then after an investigation, our law firm enforces our clients’ rights in court.
