The EEOC is suing the companies that operate the Doubletree by Hilton in Jefferson City, Missouri, for allegations that a male employee sexually harassed his co-workers and that the companies that manage the hotel failed to stop him from his offensive conduct.
The allegations against the employee include that he threw a co-worker on a bed while making offensive remarks, hit a co-worker on the arm and made offensive sexual comments to female employees on a daily basis. While there are many sexual harassment definitions depending on the applicable law, the EEOC cited these allegations as examples of sexually harassing behavior in violation of federal law.
In bringing this lawsuit forward, attorneys for the EEOC have spoken out, saying that “management has an obligation to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace.” The attorneys for the EEOC also noted that in this case, “this harassment occurred on a frequent basis and continued even after management and one of the owners knew it was happening.”
The companies have denied the allegations and have not provided additional comments on the lawsuit.
