AG Nominee Barr Says He Will Support Federal Whistleblower Laws

AG Nominee William Barr, during his confirmation hearing before the Senate, said he would “diligently enforce” the False Claims Act. The act, which took effect during the Civil War, allows private citizens to file private claims on behalf of the government and share in any penalty collected. The purpose of the act is to protect whistleblowers and encourage individuals to help combat fraud against the government.

Barr’s position on this is significant, because he previously said the False Claims Act is an “abomination.” His senate confirmation hearing notes a marked change in his previous position on the False Claims Act

This is good news for individuals, as they will be able to continue seeking protections for whistleblowing through this act.
