IKEA is facing a class-action lawsuit for age discrimination. This marks the fifth lawsuit filed against IKEA in a year’s time that alleges age discrimination.
The lawsuits against IKEA allege that the company has a culture that perpetuates discrimination and favors promoting young new talent over workers over the age of 40.
IKEA has released a statement in response, stating in part: “We believe everyone has the right to be treated fairly and be given equal opportunities– regardless of age, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical ability, ethnicity, race, nationality, religion, or any other dimension of their identity.”
The class-action lawsuit alleges that the named plaintiff was a good employee of the company who was demoted as part of a company-wide restructuring in the United States. He alleges that he has since been repeatedly passed over for promotions due to his age.
