A lawsuit filed by shareholders of Nike that alleges the board failed to do anything about alleged gender and pay discrimination has been unsealed, allowing portions of the lawsuit to become public. The lawsuit alleges that Nike’s directors had knowledge of pay and gender discrimination complaints as early as February 2015, and received detailed reports of similar complaints in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
The plaintiff shareholders also allege that the directors did nothing to respond to discrimination complaints following a highly critical news story in the Wall Street Journal in March 2018, which was mere weeks before an even more critical article in the New York Times was published in April 2018.
The lawsuit was unsealed following a motion made by the Oregon Business Journal, which argued the public had a right to inspect judicial records.
