Age Discrimination – More Common Than You Might Think

A new AARP survey’s findings show that many Americans who work past 50 years old face discrimination both when seeking new employment and at their current workplace. The AARP survey polled 3,900 people who were 45 years and older who were either working full or part-time or looking for a job. The results revealed that more than 9 out of 10 found age discrimination to be common. 61% reported that they have experienced age discrimination.

The survey also found that age discrimination was more prevalent among other protected classes. For example, women were found to have seen or experienced age discrimination more than men, and more than 75% of African Americans and 60% of Latinos were found to have experienced age discrimination.
